Coimbatore Police Deploy 1,600 Personnel for Safe New Year 2025 Celebrations
Coimbatore Police's Safety Plan for New Year's Eve

In a major initiative to ensure a secure and incident-free transition into the New Year, the Coimbatore City Police have rolled out an extensive security blueprint for the celebrations on Wednesday night. The plan involves strict directives for event organisers, strategic traffic management, and the deployment of a significant police force across the city.

Stringent Directives for Event Organisers and Bars

The police held a crucial meeting with event organisers on Tuesday, laying down a clear set of protocols. A primary focus is on ensuring women's safety. Organisers have been instructed to make concrete arrangements for sending women participants safely to their homes after the parties conclude.

Other mandatory instructions include deploying adequate private security personnel, ensuring proper parking facilities, and preventing drunk driving. Organisers must arrange alternative vehicle facilities for customers who are in no condition to drive. The functionality of CCTV cameras at venues must be verified, and footage must be handed over to the police upon request.

Private bars have received similar advisories, with a specific order to close operations before 1 am on Thursday. They are strictly warned against allowing intoxicated patrons to drive and must facilitate their safe return home.

Traffic Management and Strategic Deployment

City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar stated that event organisers are responsible for deploying guards to regulate traffic around hotels, malls, and venues. The police themselves have identified 35 key locations for law and order monitoring and another 35 spots for traffic checks to prevent accidents and violations.

To streamline vehicular movement, several flyovers will be closed from 9 pm on Wednesday. The exceptions are the North Coimbatore, Uppilipalayam, Sathy Road, and Avarampalayam flyovers, which will remain open. Emergency medical aid will be readily available, with ambulances stationed at critical points including the Anna statue on Avinashi Road, Codissia junction, near the Head Post Office on D.B. Road, and the Ukkadam-Aathupalam junction.

Public Cooperation and Helpline Numbers

A total of 1,600 police personnel will be on duty across the city on New Year's Eve. The police have appealed for public cooperation to ensure smooth celebrations.
