A tragic compressor explosion at a factory in Delhi's Ranhola area claimed the lives of two workers and left another injured on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the afternoon when the compressor suddenly burst, causing severe damage and panic among the workers.
Details of the Incident
The blast took place at a manufacturing unit located in the industrial area of Ranhola, west Delhi. According to police officials, the deceased have been identified as Rajesh Kumar (32) and Manoj Singh (28), both residents of nearby slums. The injured worker, identified as Ravi Shankar (35), has been admitted to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officers, along with forensic experts, reached the spot soon after the incident was reported. The area was cordoned off for investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion might have been caused due to a malfunction in the compressor's safety valve. However, a detailed inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) said, "We are investigating the matter from all angles. The factory owner has been detained for questioning. We will ensure strict action is taken against those responsible for this negligence."
Safety Concerns Raised
The incident has once again highlighted the poor safety standards in small-scale industrial units in the capital. Workers and local residents have demanded stricter enforcement of safety norms to prevent such tragedies in the future. The factory was reportedly operating without proper safety certificates.
In a similar incident last year, a boiler explosion at a factory in the same area had killed three workers. Activists have urged the government to conduct regular inspections and impose heavy penalties on violators.
Compensation and Support
Delhi Chief Minister expressed grief over the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The injured worker will be provided free medical treatment at a government hospital. The local administration has also been directed to ensure all possible help to the affected families.
Meanwhile, the factory has been sealed pending further investigation. The owner could face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder if negligence is proved.
