Cong Councillor Booked for Land Fraud in Ludhiana

Ludhiana police have registered a fraud case against Congress councillor Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Mundian Kalan, following a complaint by Moti Lal. The case was filed on July 7 on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, and further investigation has been assigned to ASI Anil Kumar.

Complainant's Allegations

In his complaint, Moti Lal stated that he wanted to purchase a plot and came into contact with Gurmeet Singh through his uncle, Kishan Pal, who had previously bought a plot from the councillor through his office on Tajpur Road. Gurmeet showed him plots on Tajpur Road, claiming it was his colony. Moti Lal liked one plot, and on February 5, 2023, the two signed an agreement for a 70 sq-yard plot at a price of Rs 6,400 per sq yard, totaling Rs 4,48,000.

As earnest money, Moti Lal paid Gurmeet Rs 1 lakh in the presence of witnesses. The remaining amount was to be paid in 30 monthly installments, with registration set for August 5, 2025. Over time, the victim paid a total of Rs 2,27,600 on various dates.

Discovery of Fraud

In 2024, when Moti Lal arranged the remaining Rs 2,20,400 and requested registration, Gurmeet began to procrastinate, delaying the process. “When the registration process went on hold for a long time, I conducted a probe at my own level and found that Gurmeet was not the real owner of the land. The real owners were Inderjit Singh and his wife Sukhjinder Kaur,” the complainant alleged.

He further alleged that when he demanded his money back, Gurmeet began abusing him and refused to return the amount.

Police Action

After a thorough investigation, a case was registered on July 7 based on the Commissioner of Police's orders. The probe has been assigned to ASI Anil Kumar for further investigation. The police are now investigating the matter to gather evidence and take necessary legal action against the accused.
