Congress MP's Nephew and Wife Die in Ahmedabad Tragedy: Police Probe Accidental Shooting and Suicide
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Ahmedabad, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil's nephew, Yashrajsinh Gohil, and his wife, Rajeshwari, were found dead in their fifth-floor apartment late Wednesday night. Police are investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting followed by a suicide, according to preliminary reports.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The tragedy unfolded between 10.30pm and midnight in the couple's Ahmedabad flat. Yashrajsinh Gohil, a 35-year-old Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, and his wife Rajeshwari, aged 30, who had married just last November, were in their bedroom when the incident occurred.
Citing a statement from Yashrajsinh's mother, Devyaniba, police revealed that a bullet accidentally discharged from Yashrajsinh's licensed revolver, striking Rajeshwari at the base of her head. Devyaniba reported that her son immediately rushed to her room, urgently requesting an ambulance.
Emergency Response and Subsequent Events
Police records confirm that Yashrajsinh called the 108 emergency ambulance service at 11.42pm. Upon arrival, paramedics declared Rajeshwari dead at the scene. According to Devyaniba's account, Yashrajsinh was deeply shaken upon learning of his wife's death.
Moments later, a gunshot echoed from the bedroom. Devyaniba and the ambulance staff hurried back inside to discover Yashrajsinh lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound to his head. He was pronounced dead on the spot, adding another layer of tragedy to the already grim situation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Jitendra Brahmbhatt addressed the media, stating, "Prima facie, it appears accidental firing followed by suicide. However, all angles will be probed." This indicates that while the initial evidence points towards an accident and subsequent suicide, authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation to rule out any other possibilities.
