A tragic incident occurred at Mahabuwang police station in Simdega district, Jharkhand, on Sunday morning when a constable lost his life due to an accidental discharge from his service rifle. The deceased has been identified as Raju Tirkey, a 40-year-old resident of Ranchi.
Details of the Incident
According to police officials, Tirkey had just completed his sentry duty around 10 am when the mishap took place. As he was returning after duty, his service rifle suddenly fired. The bullet struck the upper part of his throat and exited through his forehead, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately rushed to Sadar Hospital in Simdega, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police Response
Simdega Superintendent of Police Shrikant S Khotre, Deputy SP Ranveer Singh, and other police officers reached the hospital and expressed deep sorrow over the constable's death. Later in the evening, a condolence meeting was organized at the police line, where the SP and other officers paid heartfelt homage to the departed soul. Police jawans also gave a final salute to Tirkey by reversing their rifles.
Expressing shock over the untimely death of the jawan, SP Khotre assured all possible help to the bereaved family. Simdega Sub-Divisional Police Officer Baiju Oraon stated, "A very tragic incident occurred when our jawan died due to accidental fire from his service rifle on Sunday. Tirkey hailed from Ranchi."
