A seemingly trivial disagreement over the direction of a desert cooler's airflow spiraled into a fatal confrontation during a wedding celebration in Azamgarh district on Tuesday night. The incident occurred in the Indira Nagar area under Jiyanpur police station limits, resulting in one death and four serious injuries, ultimately forcing the cancellation of the wedding ceremony.

According to Azamgarh ASP (Rural) Chirag Jain, the deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Amir Chandra Sahani, who died on the spot during the clash. Four other individuals sustained serious injuries and were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police officials confirmed that several persons allegedly involved in the altercation have been taken into custody for questioning following the registration of a case based on a complaint filed by the deceased's family.

Reports indicate that before the traditional 'jaimal' ritual could take place, a heated argument erupted between some invitees from the groom's side and the bride's side regarding the direction of the cooler's air. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, with both groups attacking each other. The situation turned chaotic, leading to a stampede-like scene. During the melee, Sahani was fatally attacked, while Rajkumar Sahani, Abhilash Sahani, and Sahil Yadav—all from the groom's side—suffered severe injuries.

Upon receiving information about the clash, CO Sagdi and Jiyanpur police personnel arrived at the scene to restore order. To prevent any further untoward incidents, additional police force has been deployed in the area.
