Couple Apprehended for Alleged Poisoning Murder in Ranchi Village

In a shocking development from Ranchi, police have taken a man and his wife into custody for the alleged murder of his cousin brother. The crime, which unfolded in Lodma village under the Tamar police station, is said to be motivated by an extramarital affair, according to authorities on Tuesday.

Details of the Accused and Victim

The individuals arrested have been identified as Baldeo Machhua, aged 38, and his wife Geeta Devi, aged 35. They stand accused of killing Shankar Nayak, 22, after Baldeo discovered that Geeta was involved in an affair with his cousin brother, Shankar.

Addressing a press conference, Bundo sub-divisional police officer Om Prakash revealed that both suspects were apprehended from their residence in Lodhma late on Monday. Prakash provided further insight into the tragic circumstances, noting that Shankar had been orphaned three years prior. Following this, Geeta began managing his household affairs, which eventually led to the development of an extramarital relationship between them.

Motivation and Method of the Crime

The situation escalated when Shankar recently met another woman and expressed his desire to marry her. Geeta, reportedly angered by his intention to leave her, conspired with her husband to carry out the murder. The couple allegedly poisoned Shankar by mixing insecticide into his tea.

Shortly after consuming the tainted beverage, Shankar's health deteriorated rapidly. Despite being rushed to the Tata Medical Hospital in Jamshedpur, he succumbed to the poisoning en route. This brutal act has left the community in shock and mourning.

Legal Proceedings and Additional Arrests

Police have registered a First Information Report against the couple and their minor daughter, Sohini Kumari, based on a complaint filed by Shankar's brother, Sukra Nayak. Due to her minor status, Sohini has not been taken into custody, as confirmed by police sources.

In a related and equally grim incident, authorities also arrested another couple in the Mandar area of Ranchi district on Monday. They are accused of beheading a man who was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with the wife, highlighting a disturbing pattern of violence linked to extramarital affairs in the region.

This case underscores the severe consequences of personal disputes escalating into fatal violence, prompting calls for increased community awareness and legal vigilance.
