Couple Found Dead Near Railway Track in Balasore, Suspected Suicide Amid Pregnancy Dispute
In a tragic incident, the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered near a railway gate close to Jaleswar railway station in Balasore district on Monday evening. The deceased have been identified as Bijay Sahu, aged 35, from Sekhbard village under Jaleswar police limits, and Bandita Sahu, aged 18, from Kachagada village under Baliapal police limits.
Suspected Suicide by Train
Authorities suspect that the couple may have jumped in front of a moving train, leading to their untimely deaths. According to preliminary investigations, the incident appears to be a case of suicide, with railway police registering two unnatural death cases. Head constable of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Jaleswar, Jyoti Ranjan Parhi, confirmed that the cases have been filed and an inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Pregnancy Triggers Family Disputes
Villagers reported that Bandita Sahu was approximately six months pregnant, a situation that had reportedly sparked significant family disputes between the two families in recent days. Sources indicate that these conflicts may have contributed to the tragic outcome. It is alleged that Bijay Sahu had brought Bandita to his house earlier on the day of the incident, where an altercation occurred between them. Following this argument, the duo proceeded towards the railway track, where they were later found deceased.
Community and Police Response
The discovery of the bodies has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing grief and concern over the escalating tensions that preceded the deaths. Police officials are actively investigating the matter, including:
- Examining the scene for any evidence of foul play or external involvement.
- Interviewing family members and villagers to gather more details about the disputes and the couple's movements.
- Reviewing railway surveillance footage, if available, to corroborate the suspected suicide theory.
This incident highlights the need for greater awareness and support mechanisms to address family conflicts and mental health issues in rural areas, particularly in cases involving sensitive matters like pregnancy and relationships.
