In a brazen daylight robbery, two unidentified assailants targeted a 58-year-old courier delivery agent at knifepoint in Chandigarh's Sector 38 on Monday, making off with his cash.

Broad Daylight Assault Near Shahpur Light Point

The frightening incident occurred around 3 pm on Monday near the Shahpur Light Point area. The victim, identified as Surinder Kumar, aged 58, a resident of Jhampur village in Mohali, was on his duty delivering a package on his bicycle when he was intercepted.

According to the police complaint filed by his son Mahesh, two unknown youths stopped Surinder Kumar. In a shocking turn, the miscreants falsely accused him of being involved in an ATM theft and proceeded to frisk him. One of the robbers then held a knife to his chest, threatening him, while the other accomplice took out Rs 5,000 in cash from the delivery agent's pocket.

Police Investigation and CCTV Scrutiny

After committing the crime, the two assailants quickly fled the scene towards Sector 25. The Chandigarh Police have launched an investigation into the matter. A key part of their probe involves checking footage from CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene in Sector 38 to identify the robbers and trace their escape route.

The police are analyzing the visuals to get clues about the appearance and direction taken by the culprits. Such daylight crimes in busy sectors have raised concerns about public safety.

Impact and Community Concern

This robbery highlights the vulnerabilities faced by delivery personnel and other frontline workers who often carry cash and operate alone. The fact that it happened in a prominent area like Sector 38 in broad daylight has sent a wave of unease through the local community.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The investigation is ongoing as police work to apprehend the two unidentified miscreants involved in this knife-point robbery.
