A Bengaluru court has re-issued a non-bailable warrant against actor Prakash Raj in connection with a case alleging he held multiple voter ID cards across four states. The private complaint, filed by a local activist, claims that Raj, who contested the 2019 assembly elections, possessed voter ID cards in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
Details of the Allegations
According to the complaint, Prakash Raj obtained voter ID cards in multiple states, which is a violation of electoral laws. The actor, known for his work in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, had contested the 2019 Karnataka assembly elections as an independent candidate from the Hebbal constituency but lost. The complainant alleges that Raj's possession of multiple voter IDs undermines the integrity of the electoral process.
Court Proceedings
The warrant was initially issued earlier this month but was re-issued after Raj failed to appear before the court. The judge directed the police to execute the warrant and produce the actor before the court. Raj's legal team has stated that they are unaware of any such multiple voter IDs and that the actor is cooperating with the investigation.
As per the court order, the next hearing is scheduled for July 10, 2026. The case has garnered significant attention due to Raj's prominence in the film industry and his political activism.
