A criminal who sustained injuries during a police encounter in Patna's Masaurhi area late Friday night succumbed to his injuries on Saturday while undergoing treatment. The incident also left two police personnel injured, but a young man who had been lured and held captive by the accused and his associates was rescued safely.
Police Operation and Rescue
City SP (East) Parichay Kumar stated that Masaurhi police received a tip-off around 7:30 PM on Friday about four to five armed men assaulting a youth in a field near Manichak village. The victim was believed to have been abducted and was in grave danger.
A police team was immediately dispatched to the location and initiated a rescue operation. However, as officers advanced, the accused opened fire. Police retaliated in self-defense, leading to a brief gunfight. During the exchange, Constable Rahul Kumar sustained a gunshot wound, while Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar suffered a minor injury from a bullet graze on his hand. Both injured officers were admitted to AIIMS-Patna and are reported to be out of danger. The accused managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Victim's Account
The victim was rescued unharmed. During initial questioning, he revealed that he had been lured to the spot under the pretext of purchasing a mobile phone through an online deal. Upon arrival, he was assaulted and an attempt was made to rob him of cash.
Death of the Criminal
Police later discovered that one of the criminals had also been shot during the exchange. Parichay Kumar said, Investigations revealed that his associates took him to Punpun primary health centre before shifting him to PMCH and later to private hospitals. He eventually succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital around 12:10 AM on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Haider Ali, who had previously been imprisoned in a murder case registered in the Masaurhi area. Police are actively searching for the remaining absconding accused.
