Criminal with 24 cases arrested in Fatehpur encounter

Prayagraj: A criminal was injured and arrested in an encounter with the police near Dhamnakhurd road under the limits of Chandpur police station of Fatehpur district late on Sunday night.

Details of the Encounter

The injured criminal, identified as Dharamveer alias Raj Lodhi alias Uglesh (29) of Guaspur, was admitted to the district hospital for treatment. He has more than 24 criminal cases lodged against him across the state and was carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his head.

A joint team of Chandpur and Bindiki police was carrying out checking when they received a tip-off about his movement near Dharmakhurd road. As the cops intercepted a bike and asked the biker to stop, he opened fire on the police party. The cops retaliated, leaving the criminal injured in his left leg.

Recoveries Made

The police seized a bike, one country-made pistol of 0.315 bore along with one live and one used cartridge, and a looted gold chain from his possession. Police said that Lodhi was wanted by Chandpur police in connection with a case registered under section 304(2) of BNS, wherein he along with his accomplice had looted a gold chain worth Rs 2.50 lakh from a woman near Harkundi canal bridge road on April 8.

This arrest marks a significant success for the local police in cracking down on habitual offenders in the region.
