Kanpur: In a joint operation, the police and SWAT team arrested a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 during an encounter in Jalaun on Friday night. The accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was subsequently hospitalized for treatment.
Details of the Incident
On June 2, a motorcycle belonging to Sankalp Singh, a resident of the Kotwali Jalaun area, was reported stolen. An FIR was registered against an unknown thief at the Kotwali police station. During the investigation, on Friday, while conducting a check on the Gram Lona connecting road, police attempted to stop a suspicious bike rider. The accused opened fire on the police team with the intention to kill.
In self-defense, the police retaliated, resulting in the accused being shot in the leg. He was arrested in an injured condition. The accused was identified as Chhotey Lal, a resident of Churkhi. Police recovered a stolen Bajaj Platina motorcycle, a country-made pistol, two cartridges, and two empty cartridge shells from his possession.
Police Statement
ASP Ishan Soni, who arrived at the scene, confirmed that the recovered bike had been recently stolen. He stated that approximately 19 cases are registered against the accused under various sections, including attempted murder, theft, the Arms Act, the Excise Act, and the Gangster Act. The accused had been under police surveillance for a long time, and a reward of Rs 25,000 had been declared for his capture.
