Cyberabad Police Intensify Efforts Against Public Harassment of Women
In a significant crackdown on public harassment, the Cyberabad SHE Teams have demonstrated a robust commitment to women's safety. Between April 11 and 17, these specialized units executed an impressive 116 decoy operations across the region. These proactive measures resulted in the arrest of 36 men who were allegedly involved in harassing women in various public spaces.
Legal Actions and Counseling Initiatives
Following the arrests, police authorities have registered 34 petty cases against the accused individuals. In a move aimed at rehabilitation and prevention, the detained men were provided with counseling sessions. Notably, these sessions were conducted in the presence of their family members, emphasizing a community-oriented approach to addressing behavioral issues.
Additional Complaints and Trafficking Rescue
Beyond the decoy operations, the Cyberabad police received 18 separate complaints from women during the same period. These reports were submitted through multiple channels, including social media platforms, dedicated helplines, and direct visits to police stations. In a parallel effort, the Cyberabad Anti-Human Trafficking Unit achieved a critical success by rescuing a victim of trafficking. An alleged trafficker was arrested under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA), highlighting the police's broader focus on combating exploitation.
Marital Dispute Resolution and Awareness Campaigns
The Family Counselling Centres operating under the Cyberabad commissionerate played a pivotal role in resolving domestic conflicts. These centers successfully assisted 41 couples in addressing and settling their marital disputes, contributing to family harmony and social stability. Furthermore, the police organized extensive awareness programs targeting crucial issues such as cyberbullying, stalking, child marriages, and the availability of emergency helplines. These educational initiatives reached a diverse audience of 1,846 students, workers, and residents throughout the commissionerate.
Public Appeal for Prompt Reporting
In light of these efforts, the Cyberabad police have issued a strong appeal to the public. They urge citizens to utilize emergency services without delay by dialing 100 for immediate assistance or contacting 1930 to report specific offences. This call to action underscores the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety and ensuring swift responses to incidents of harassment and other crimes.
