PHED Employee Found Dead on Darbhanga Roadside
In a shocking incident, the body of a government employee was discovered on a roadside in Bihar's Darbhanga district on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Pawan Prasad (57), worked at the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) laboratory. His body was found near Tower Chowk under the jurisdiction of the Laheriasarai police station.
Evidence Points to Violent Attack
Local residents alerted the police after spotting the body. Preliminary investigation revealed multiple injury marks on the body, with indications of a possible knife attack targeting the neck. Police officials swiftly arrived at the scene to collect forensic evidence. A key part of the investigation involves the analysis of CCTV footage from the vicinity. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jagunath Reddy confirmed that a special investigation team has been formed to crack the case. "We are probing all angles, including the possibility of a personal or internal dispute leading to the murder," stated the SSP. He added that the Station House Officer was directed to investigate immediately upon receiving information about the incident.
Mystery Deepens with Claim of Second Marriage
The investigation took a complex turn with the emergence of a disputed marital claim. A woman named Runi Khatoon arrived at the post-mortem house asserting that she was Prasad's second wife. She claimed they had married in 2017 at a Kali temple.
However, this claim was strongly contested by Rahul Kumar, a friend of the victim's son. Rahul alleged that Runi Khatoon's claim was baseless and lacked any supporting documentation or photographic proof of the marriage. When questioned about this development, SSP Reddy stated that the matter of the two wives is under investigation and further action will be based on the facts that emerge.
It was also revealed that the deceased, Pawan Prasad, a resident of Laheriasarai, supplemented his income by driving an e-rickshaw part-time. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the motive and apprehend the culprits behind this brutal murder.
