A 65-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her own daughter and grandson in Bengaluru's Kengeri area, police said on Wednesday. The accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as Lakshmamma, was found dead at her residence in Kengeri on Tuesday evening. Initial investigations revealed that her daughter, Geetha (38), and grandson, Manjunath (20), were involved in the crime. Police said the duo allegedly strangled Lakshmamma after a heated argument over money and alcohol.
A senior police officer stated that the family had a history of alcohol addiction, which often led to domestic disputes. "The accused frequently demanded money from the victim for alcohol. On the day of the incident, a quarrel escalated, leading to the murder," the officer said.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's son, police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused were taken into custody within hours of the incident. They were produced before a local court and sent to judicial custody.
Police have recovered the murder weapon and other evidence from the scene. Further investigation is underway to determine if any other family members were involved.
Community Reaction
The incident has shocked the local community, with residents expressing outrage over the killing. Neighbors described the victim as a kind and elderly woman who often complained about her daughter's alcoholism. "We are deeply saddened. Such violence within families is unacceptable," said a neighbor.
Police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities or domestic violence cases promptly.
