Woman Killed, Man Injured in E-Rickshaw and Electric Car Collision in Delhi

A tragic road accident in northwest Delhi's Model Town on Monday evening resulted in the death of a 46-year-old woman and injuries to a man, following a collision between an e-rickshaw and an electric car. Police have arrested the driver of the electric car in connection with the incident.

Details of the Accident

The accident occurred near the Satyawati Cut on GTK Road, close to the Satyawati flyover, around 7 pm. A PCR call alerted the Model Town police station, prompting teams to rush to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a mangled e-rickshaw and a damaged electric car, indicating a high-impact collision at the T-point.

The victim, identified as Kiran Devi, was a contractual employee working in the ration card office in Gurmandi. She was traveling in the e-rickshaw at the time of the crash. The impact of the collision flung her onto the road, after which the electric car ran over her, causing fatal injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Victim's Background and Family

Kiran Devi is survived by two sons, aged 17 and 15 years, and an older daughter. According to a senior police officer, she was on her way back to her home in Shakarpur after work. Kiran typically took a bus from Azadpur for her commute. She lived separately from her husband and was the sole provider for her household, supporting her children financially.

Injuries and Arrest

The e-rickshaw driver, Puran Mal, sustained injuries in the accident. He was taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged. Preliminary investigations suggest that the electric car, driven by 35-year-old homemaker Anjali Arora, allegedly rammed into the e-rickshaw at high speed. The force of the crash left the e-rickshaw severely damaged. Police have arrested Anjali Arora and seized the vehicle involved in the incident.

Legal Action and Investigation

A case has been registered at the Model Town police station under sections 281 (rash driving on a public way), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are currently examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.

Context of Similar Incidents

This accident highlights ongoing road safety concerns in Delhi. In February, a six-year-old girl was killed and her grandmother injured after their e-rickshaw collided with a car and overturned in west Delhi's Janakpuri, underscoring the vulnerability of such vehicles in traffic accidents.
