Armed Robbery in Delhi: Man Robbed of Gold Jewellery at Gunpoint in East of Kailash
In a shocking incident that has raised concerns about public safety in the national capital, a 48-year-old man was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by four motorcycle-borne assailants in southeast Delhi's East of Kailash area during the early hours of Tuesday. The victim, identified as Ankur Ahuja, was targeted while returning home on his scooter, resulting in the theft of his valuable gold jewellery.
Details of the Terrifying Incident
According to police reports and statements from the victim's wife, Ankur Ahuja had stepped out of his home late at night to drop a friend off at Sant Nagar. While returning home on his scooter around 3:15 am, he began to suspect he was being followed by two motorcycles. As he continued towards his residence in East of Kailash, one of the motorcycles sped up and deliberately rammed into his scooter, forcing him to stop abruptly.
The assailants quickly surrounded him. Three of the four robbers wore helmets, concealing their faces, while two were armed with firearms. The victim's wife told reporters that the armed men pointed their guns at Ahuja and threatened to shoot him if he resisted their demands.
Methodical Theft of Gold Jewellery
The robbers initially attempted to steal Ahuja's scooter but were unsuccessful as he had hidden the keys. Their attention then turned to his gold jewellery. "They noticed his gold kada and used a pair of pliers or cutters to cut it off his wrist," the wife explained. "When his arm felt an impact, he moved slightly, revealing he also wore a chain. They then snatched his chain with the pendant."
The entire robbery occurred within minutes, with the assailants fleeing the scene around 3:28 am. Despite the presence of several parked trucks along the stretch and a taxi driver who briefly stopped, witnesses were deterred by the visible weapons. "The moment he noticed the weapons, he drove away," the wife noted about the taxi driver's reaction.
Police Investigation and Evidence
Ahuja demonstrated remarkable presence of mind by memorizing the registration number of one of the motorcycles used in the crime. When police traced this vehicle, they discovered it had been reported stolen from Kalkaji on March 12, indicating the robbers were using stolen vehicles to commit crimes.
A case has been registered at the Amar Colony police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police officials confirmed they are analyzing CCTV footage from the area and making concerted efforts to identify and apprehend the accused at the earliest. Four people on two stolen motorcycles, wearing helmets, approached her. One of them allegedly struck her with a blunt object, suspected to be a gun, before fleeing with her bangle. The woman suffered minor injuries in the attack. A case has been registered at Krishna Nagar police station, and investigations are underway in this matter as well.
