Family in Disbelief Over Allegations
The family members of Dr Umar Nabi, identified as the primary suspect in Monday's devastating Delhi explosions, have expressed profound shock and disbelief regarding his alleged involvement in the incident that claimed 12 lives and left numerous individuals injured.
According to preliminary investigation findings, Dr Umar Nabi, a medical professional hailing from Lethpora in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, was reportedly driving the Hyundai i20 that detonated near a traffic signal outside the historic Red Fort monument.
Family's Emotional Response
Muzamila, Dr Nabi's sister-in-law, vehemently defended his character when speaking with news agency ANI. "He wasn't that kind of man," she asserted, struggling to reconcile the allegations with the person she knew.
She revealed that security forces had approached the family inquiring about Umar's whereabouts, to which they responded truthfully that he was in Delhi. Following this interaction, the forces conducted further investigations.
According to family accounts, Umar had not visited his home for approximately two months preceding the incident and maintained a relatively small social circle with few friends.
Personal Life and Aspirations
Contrary to the image emerging from investigation reports, family members described Umar as deeply connected to his family and on the verge of marriage. "He was very attached to my children and loved them a lot," Muzamila recalled emotionally.
She painted a picture of a cricket enthusiast who spent his leisure time engaged in the sport during family visits. "Whenever he visited home, he used to be busy with Cricket. He loved Cricket," she remembered.
The family had invested significant effort in his education, with Muzamila noting, "We faced a lot of struggles to get him educated. We worked hard so that he could stand on his own two feet and take care of us. I cannot believe all this."
Investigation Developments
Authorities suspect that Umar Nabi died in the explosion and had connections to Al Falah University. Investigative theories suggest he might have carried out the detonation after learning about the detention of several associates, including an individual named Shaheen.
In a significant development for the ongoing investigation, Jammu and Kashmir police have collected DNA samples from Umar's mother. These samples will be compared against human remains recovered from the blast site to establish positive identification.
The investigation continues to unfold as authorities work to piece together the complete sequence of events and identify any additional individuals who might have been involved in planning or executing the deadly attack.
