In a shocking incident rooted in a long-standing dispute, a 42-year-old man was arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly stabbing his former landlord with a meat cleaver in the bustling Chandni Mahal area of Central Delhi. The attack left the 60-year-old property owner critically injured.
The Fatal Attack Near Badi Masjid
The violent assault occurred around 5:45 PM on December 20 near Rakabganj's Badi Masjid. According to police officials, the elderly landlord was returning home after offering evening prayers when the accused, identified as Jugnu, launched a surprise attack from behind.
"Jugnu, who was earlier a tenant in the area, allegedly attacked him from behind, stabbing him near the chest before fleeing," stated DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan. The victim's son, who witnessed the horrific scene, immediately rushed his father to LNJP Hospital, where he remains under medical treatment for critical injuries.
Eviction Grudge Led to Violent Retaliation
Police investigations revealed that the motive behind the brutal attack was a simmering grudge held by the accused. Jugnu had been evicted from the premises through court orders approximately a year and a half ago. His inability to accept this legal outcome allegedly festered into a desire for violent revenge against his former landlord.
Technical Surveillance Leads to Swift Arrest
The Central Delhi police team mounted an intensive investigation to track down the assailant. Officers analyzed footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras in the vicinity and employed technical surveillance methods to trace Jugnu's movements after the crime.
This meticulous effort paid off, leading to his arrest from the Delhi Gate area on the same day, December 20. During the arrest, the police successfully recovered the alleged weapon of attack, the meat cleaver, and the bloodstained clothes worn by Jugnu during the incident.
The case highlights the severe consequences of unresolved tenant-landlord disputes and the efficacy of modern surveillance in solving crimes in the capital. The police have registered a case, and further legal proceedings are underway.
