Gym Owner Targeted in Delhi Shooting After Rs 2 Crore Extortion Demand
In a brazen incident of criminal intimidation, a gym located in Chhawla village within southwest Delhi's Dwarka area became the target of a shooting attack on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The attack occurred just days after the gym's owner reportedly received an extortion demand of Rs 2 crore, allegedly from Harry Boxer, an associate of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
No Injuries Reported as Gym Was Closed
Fortunately, no one was present at the gym at the time of the shooting, and consequently, no injuries have been reported. The Delhi Police have confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to identify and trace the perpetrators responsible for this violent act.
Owner Under Pressure from Criminal Syndicates
The 36-year-old gym owner has reportedly been on the radar of various criminal syndicates in recent times. According to his statement to the police, just a few days prior to this incident, he had also received a demand for protection money from UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan, indicating a pattern of targeted extortion attempts against his business.
Discovery of the Attack
The owner had closed his gym as usual at approximately 10 pm on Friday. Before departing for his residence, he conducted a thorough check of the premises, ensuring all entry and exit points, including the main shutter and internal doors, were securely locked.
When he returned at around 4:45 am on Saturday morning to reopen the facility, he immediately noticed glass shards scattered near the front shutter. As he attempted to lift the shutter, he encountered some resistance. Upon closer inspection, he discovered three holes in the shutter that appeared consistent with bullet impact marks.
Further examination revealed three empty cartridges lying on the road just outside the gym, providing clear evidence that shots had been fired at the property while he was away. Upon finally gaining entry, he found that an internal glass door was completely shattered, with glass fragments strewn across the floor, suggesting the bullets had penetrated the shutter and struck the door.
Police Response and Investigation
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the owner immediately contacted the police. A team of local officers rushed to the scene promptly. Subsequently, a specialized team from the crime branch, along with officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), conducted a detailed inspection of the site to gather forensic evidence and clues.
The case has been formally registered, and authorities are pursuing all leads to apprehend those responsible. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of organized crime and extortion activities in certain areas, putting business owners at risk and disrupting community safety.
