In a disturbing incident of street violence, Delhi Police have taken two individuals into custody following a knife assault on an 18-year-old youth in the Nehru Vihar area of northeast Delhi. The primary accused, a 19-year-old, has been arrested, while his 16-year-old associate was apprehended.

Chilling Details of the Evening Assault

The case came to light on Monday when the Dayalpur police station received information about the violent attack. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered that the victim had already been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The 18-year-old victim recounted to the police that he was returning home around 8 pm when he was suddenly set upon by a group of three to four people. The assailants not only beat him but also assaulted him with a knife, leaving him injured.

Swift Police Action and Confession

Acting on the victim's statement and subsequent investigations, the police identified and nabbed the main suspect, identified as Farooq, a resident of Chandu Nagar. During interrogation, Farooq confessed to his involvement in the crime.

His confession proved crucial, as he disclosed the names of his accomplices. Based on this lead, the police were able to locate and apprehend a 16-year-old boy believed to be one of the co-accused in the assault. The authorities have also successfully seized the knife used in the commission of the crime.

Legal Repercussions and Case Registration

The Delhi Police have registered a formal case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges invoked include:

  • Section 118 for voluntarily causing hurt.
  • Section 126 for wrongful restraint.
  • Section 3(5) for acting with common intention.

The swift registration of the case and the seizure of the weapon underscore the police's response to the incident. Investigations are ongoing to identify and nab the remaining individuals involved in the attack.
