Tragic Birthday Eve Shooting in Shahdara

A young man's life was brutally cut short in Shahdara on Friday night when he was shot dead merely an hour before he would have celebrated his 28th birthday. The victim, identified as Gagan Aahi, fell prey to what police describe as a violent culmination of long-standing disputes over dominance in the area.

Chilling Details of the Attack

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants approached Gagan near a sweet shop in V-Block, Shahdara, and engaged him in what appeared to be a friendly hug. However, the gesture turned deadly when one of them fired a bullet near his head. The incident occurred at approximately 11:09 PM on Friday, prompting immediate police response.

Local police teams rushed to the scene and discovered Gagan with a gunshot wound to his right temple. He was quickly transported to GTB Hospital, where medical professionals declared him brought dead upon arrival. The timing added particular poignancy to the tragedy, as friends had prepared birthday celebrations that never happened.

DCP Prashant Gautam of Shahdara confirmed the heartbreaking context: "His friends had planned to cut a cake and celebrate his birthday, but before the celebration could begin, two suspects arrived and shot him."

Police Investigation and Arrests

Law enforcement moved swiftly, arresting two suspects identified as Kunal (28) and Akshit (27). The duo allegedly executed the attack using a motorcycle as their getaway vehicle. Authorities successfully seized both the pistol used in the crime and the motorcycle during their investigation.

Police revealed that the murder stemmed from repeated conflicts over dominance between the victim and the accused. The tension had been building for approximately a month, beginning when the three men were drinking together. During that encounter, Gagan allegedly slapped one of the accused following a verbal argument over a minor issue, significantly escalating hostilities.

On the fateful day of the shooting, the two suspects reportedly devised their plan while consuming alcohol together. They cleverly lured Gagan to the location under the false pretense of reconciliation, only to execute their deadly scheme when he arrived.

Criminal Background and Legal Proceedings

Investigations uncovered that the deceased had been tagged with a "bad character" designation in police records and was previously involved in four criminal cases. The current case has been formally registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act as police continue their thorough investigation into all aspects of the incident.

The Shahdara shooting highlights the dangerous consequences of unresolved local disputes and the tragic outcomes that can result when conflicts escalate into violence. The community remains shaken by the brazen nature of the attack, which occurred in a public area and robbed a young man of his life moments before what should have been a joyful celebration.
