Suspect in Delhi Murder Accused of Earlier Rape in Rajasthan

In a shocking sequence of events, a 23-year-old man is alleged to have committed two brutal crimes within hours, culminating in the rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in south Delhi on Wednesday morning. Prior to this, he is accused of raping and attempting to strangle another woman in Alwar, Rajasthan, his hometown.

Details of the Alwar Incident

According to the FIR filed in Alwar, the suspect knocked on the door of the survivor's house at 10:30 pm on Tuesday. When she opened the door, he forced his way inside, gagged her, threw her to the floor, and raped her. The FIR states that he bit her in multiple places and tried to strangle her during the assault. Before leaving, he threatened to kill her husband and children if she reported the crime to authorities.

The survivor's husband was away in their village for a wedding, leaving her alone in Alwar with their two children. After the suspect fled, she immediately contacted her husband, who rushed home and filed a police complaint. SP Sudheer Choudhary of Alwar confirmed the registration of the FIR and the initiation of an investigation.

Journey to Delhi and Second Crime

Following the Alwar incident, the suspect allegedly traveled to Delhi by stopping an ambulance on the highway, promising to pay the driver Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 for the ride. However, he abandoned the vehicle midway without making any payment. Police discovered that he sold three mobile phones, including his own and his brother's, for a total of Rs 13,000 during this journey.

Upon reaching south Delhi, he targeted a residence where he had previously worked as a domestic worker. The building was reportedly well-secured, with CCTV coverage and locked doors on each floor. The suspect allegedly used his knowledge of passcodes from his prior employment to bypass at least four locks, gaining entry without forced entry. Inside, he is accused of raping and murdering the 22-year-old woman.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Delhi Police quickly connected the two crimes after Alwar authorities shared information. CCTV footage showed the suspect entering the Delhi residence in a yellow shirt and black trousers but exiting in white trousers and carrying a black backpack. This led to the identification of the former domestic worker as the prime suspect.

A massive manhunt was launched, involving around 15 police teams conducting raids across multiple states, including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Raids were also carried out at locations of his relatives and acquaintances in north Delhi's Palam and Kamla Nagar areas. His photographs were distributed to all police stations in the capital.

The breakthrough came when police traced a mobile number known only to a few of his relatives, locating it in the Palam-Dwarka area. After an intensive search operation, he was arrested from a hotel around 6 pm on the same day.

Background and Motive

Police investigations revealed that the suspect was addicted to online gaming, alcohol, and drugs, with a history of aggressive behavior and frequent fights in his village. He had recently borrowed significant amounts of money and was under pressure to repay his debts. Authorities believe he targeted his former employers in Delhi due to his awareness of their financial situation, intending to steal from them.

The case highlights the rapid coordination between police forces across states and the use of technology, such as CCTV and mobile tracking, in solving serious crimes. Further investigations are ongoing to gather additional evidence and ensure justice for the victims.
