Delhi Police Intensifies Holi Security with Operation Aaghaat 4.0
In a major pre-Holi crackdown, Delhi Police has launched Operation Aaghaat 4.0, resulting in the arrest of 200 individuals for alleged involvement in drug, liquor, and arms trafficking. This synchronized drive aims to ensure public safety during the festive season, with enhanced measures to combat illegal activities.
Widespread Detentions and Prosecutions
Police officials reported that around 970 people were detained under preventive sections to avert potential crimes, while over 550 individuals were prosecuted for drinking in public places. During extensive area checks and verification drives, authorities rounded up 3,980 persons across residential colonies, markets, and identified vulnerable pockets to maintain order.
Seizures and Legal Actions
The operation led to significant seizures, including 36 weapons such as 12 illegal firearms, 14 live cartridges, and 24 knives, with 33 cases registered under the Arms Act. In drug-related recoveries, police confiscated 7.2 kg of ganja and 12.7 gm of MDMA. Additionally, large quantities of illicit liquor were seized, comprising around 16,000 quarters, 110 beer bottles, and 28 beer cans, resulting in 60 cases under the Excise Act.
Vehicle Impoundments and Other Recoveries
Under the Delhi Police Act, approximately 475 vehicles were impounded, and 63 challans were issued under COTPA for traffic violations. The operation also saw the arrest of 70 listed bad characters and 4 proclaimed offenders. In separate actions, six alleged snatchers and auto-lifters were apprehended, with police recovering 9 stolen motorcycles and 20 stolen or lost mobile phones. Cash amounting to Rs 84,740 was recovered in gambling-related cases.
Enhanced Policing Measures
More than 2,500 police personnel were deployed for synchronized operations, which included simultaneous checks at hotspots, execution of pending warrants, and focused drives in sensitive areas. Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Sanjay Kumar Jain emphasized, "Enhanced patrolling, naka picketing, breath analyser checks, and high-visibility policing will continue through Holi. Police will maintain a zero-tolerance approach to hooliganism, harassment, and drunken driving."
