Delhi Police ASI Apprehended While Accepting Bribe in Dowry Harassment Case
In a significant crackdown on corruption, the vigilance unit of the Delhi Police has successfully apprehended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) red-handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The incident, which unfolded in the capital city, highlights ongoing efforts to combat misconduct within law enforcement agencies.
Details of the Bribery Allegation
The case originated from a complaint filed by a resident of Shahdara, who alleged that his wife had previously lodged a dowry harassment case against him at the Geeta Colony police station. According to police statements, the investigating officer assigned to this case, identified as ASI Rohtash Kumar, is accused of exploiting his position to harass and threaten the complainant.
Kumar allegedly demanded an initial bribe of Rs 40,000, purportedly to influence the investigation and avoid strict legal action against the complainant and his family members named in the First Information Report (FIR). After negotiations between the parties, the demanded amount was reportedly reduced to Rs 20,000, setting the stage for the vigilance operation.
Vigilance Operation and Arrest
Acting on the complaint, the vigilance team of the Delhi Police meticulously planned and executed a trap to catch the ASI in the act. The operation led to Kumar being caught red-handed while accepting the bribe, marking a swift response to allegations of corruption. This arrest underscores the department's commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability among its personnel.
The vigilance unit's proactive measures in this case serve as a reminder of the legal consequences for officers who engage in unethical practices. Authorities have emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated, and investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served in this matter.
