In a significant crackdown on hazardous illegal activities, the Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a clandestine LPG storage and refilling racket operating from a residential plot in southwest Delhi's Palam Village. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 45 domestic gas cylinders along with unauthorized refilling equipment, highlighting serious public safety concerns.
Raid Uncovers Dangerous Operation
Acting on a credible tip-off about illegal storage activities at a vacant plot near Adarsh Gali, police conducted a targeted raid on March 28. During the operation, officers discovered a tempo vehicle loaded with numerous gas cylinders, revealing the scale of the illicit enterprise.
Arrests and Confessions
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anaar Singh from Najafgarh, Satyaveer of Dabri, and Vikas Kumar of Palam. All three failed to produce any valid license for their activities and subsequently admitted to renting the plot specifically for conducting illegal refilling operations.
DCP (southwest) Amit Goel provided disturbing details about the operation's methods: "Gas was being illegally transferred from one cylinder to another using nozzles and a weighing machine, without any safety measures whatsoever. This created an extremely dangerous environment with potential for catastrophic accidents."
Safety Violations and Investigation
The complete absence of safety protocols during the refilling process represents a grave violation of established regulations. Police authorities have expressed particular concern about the potential fire hazards and explosion risks created by such unregulated operations in residential areas.
Investigators suspect possible connections to a Janakpuri-based gas agency and are pursuing this lead as part of their ongoing investigation into the broader network supporting such illegal activities. A formal case has been registered against the accused individuals.
Broader Implications
This incident underscores the persistent challenges authorities face in regulating domestic gas distribution and preventing unauthorized operations that endanger public safety. The successful bust demonstrates Delhi Police's commitment to addressing such violations, particularly those that pose direct threats to community welfare in residential neighborhoods.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to gas cylinder storage or distribution to prevent similar dangerous operations from establishing themselves in other locations.
