Delhi Police Cracks Down on International Arms Trafficking Network
In a significant law enforcement achievement, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully dismantled a major international arms trafficking network operating from the historic Walled City area. The operation resulted in the arrest of ten operatives and the seizure of a substantial cache of sophisticated weaponry, including 21 firearms and 200 live cartridges.
Sophisticated Arsenal Uncovered
The seized haul comprises a diverse array of high-grade weapons, highlighting the network's access to international arms markets. Among the confiscated items is a Czech-made submachine gun, along with several semi-automatic pistols from renowned global manufacturers such as Beretta, Walther, Taurus, and CZ. Notably, investigators also recovered a PX-5.7 pistol, a premium firearm typically associated with elite military and special forces units. This discovery has raised serious concerns among authorities regarding the network's operational reach and potential intentions, suggesting links to more organized and dangerous criminal elements.
Well-Organised Smuggling Route Exposed
Led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav, the investigation unveiled a meticulously planned smuggling route that spanned multiple countries. According to police reports, weapons were initially sourced from Pakistan, then routed through the porous Indo-Nepal border before being transported into Delhi's Walled City. This area served as the central distribution hub for the network, facilitating the supply of arms to various criminal gangs across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and other states. The network effectively acted as a critical bridge, connecting international suppliers with domestic organized crime groups, thereby fueling violence and illegal activities on a large scale.
Impact on Organised Crime and Ongoing Investigations
Officials have stated that this crackdown deals a significant blow to organized crime in northern India by disrupting a key supply chain for high-grade weapons. The seizure not only prevents these arms from reaching criminal hands but also hampers the operational capabilities of numerous gangs reliant on such sophisticated equipment. Currently, the arrested accused are undergoing intensive interrogation to map the full extent of the racket. Investigators are probing the financial links of those arrested to identify the masterminds behind the operation and trace the end-users of the smuggled arms. Additionally, authorities remain on high alert for possible sleeper cells connected to the network, indicating that further arrests or operations may be imminent as the investigation deepens.
This operation underscores the Delhi Police's commitment to combating transnational crime and enhancing national security. By targeting the infrastructure that supports arms trafficking, law enforcement aims to curb the flow of illegal weapons and reduce associated violence in the region.
