In a significant development, Delhi Police has officially filed a chargesheet concerning the unfortunate death of 25-year-old biker Kamal Dhyani. The young man tragically fell into an uncovered Delhi Jal Board pit located in west Delhi's Janakpuri area on February 6. This legal document, submitted before a Delhi court on April 7, is notably extensive, spanning 877 pages and detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Accused Named in the Chargesheet
The chargesheet identifies three individuals as accused in this case. These include Himanshu Gupta, aged 45, who served as the suspended director of the main contractor company involved in the project. Additionally, Rajesh Kumar, 47, a sub-contractor associated with the work, and Yogesh, 23, have been named. Police authorities have emphasized that the investigation into the roles of other suspected individuals is still actively ongoing. As a result, a supplementary chargesheet is planned to be filed in court at a later date to address any further findings.
Background of the Victim and Incident Details
Kamal Dhyani was a resident of Palam, with his family originally hailing from Uttarakhand. He was employed at a private bank's call centre in Rohini. On the night of the incident, he left his office around 11 pm and contacted his family at approximately 11.50 pm, informing them he was near home and expected to arrive within 10 minutes. However, he soon stopped responding to calls, causing immediate concern among his family and friends.
An intensive overnight search operation was launched across Janakpuri, Rohini, Paschim Vihar, and nearby police stations, but initially, no trace of him was discovered. The following morning at around 7 am, when his family attempted to call his number again, the call was answered by police personnel. Authorities subsequently informed them that Dhyani's motorcycle and body had been found inside an open construction pit. Notably, he was still wearing his helmet at the time of discovery, highlighting the sudden and tragic nature of the accident.
This case has drawn attention to safety issues related to uncovered pits and construction sites in urban areas, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of regulations. The filing of the chargesheet marks a crucial step in the legal process, aiming to hold responsible parties accountable for the negligence that led to this preventable loss of life. As the investigation progresses, further updates are anticipated regarding the supplementary chargesheet and any additional legal actions.
