The Delhi Police Crime Branch has achieved a major breakthrough in the international case involving multiple shootings at comedian Kapil Sharma's restaurant in Canada. In a significant operation, authorities have captured the alleged mastermind who coordinated the attacks from Indian soil.
Key Arrest and Recovery
Bandhu Maan Singh Shekhon, identified as a major operative of the Goldy Dhillon gang, was apprehended by a team led by DCP Sanjeev Yadav. During the arrest, officials made a crucial recovery - a Chinese PX-3 pistol was seized from the accused.
Special CP Devesh Srivastava confirmed that Shekhon played a pivotal role in orchestrating the overseas attacks while operating remotely from India. The arrest marks a significant development in the cross-border investigation that has been ongoing for several months.
Series of Terrifying Attacks
The violence targeting Kap's Cafe began shortly after the establishment opened earlier this year as Kapil Sharma's first international restaurant venture. The restaurant faced three separate shooting incidents within a span of just four months.
The timeline of attacks includes:
- July 9: First shooting claimed by Germany-based Babbar Khalsa International terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi
- August: 9-10 rounds fired at the café, with at least six bullets hitting the front walls and windows
- October: Third attack occurred just two weeks after the café reopened following repairs
The August incident was particularly alarming as staff members were inside the restaurant during the attack. The assailants not only fired multiple rounds but also hurled Molotov cocktails at the establishment. Local residents alerted authorities after hearing gunfire around 4:30 am, prompting immediate police deployment.
Gang Claims Responsibility and Issues Threats
In the most recent October assault, the shooters recorded their actions from inside a moving car using an automatic pistol. The footage was later uploaded on social media platforms, demonstrating the brazen nature of the attacks.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang affiliates Goldy Dhillon and Kulvir Sidhu publicly claimed responsibility for the violence. The gang warned several Bollywood figures over alleged anti-religious remarks and issued threats of more attacks to come.
Following the August shooting, Dhillon claimed online that the gang had attempted to call Kapil Sharma but didn't receive a response, which prompted them to "act." He further escalated tensions by warning that their next move would take place in Mumbai, indicating a potential expansion of their violent campaign.
The repeated attacks created widespread panic and raised serious concerns about the safety of Indian celebrities and their international business ventures. The successful arrest by Delhi Police brings hope that the network behind these coordinated attacks is being dismantled.
