Delhi Police Unveils QR Code-Based Anti-Drug Initiative for College Campuses
In a significant move to combat substance abuse among youth, the South-West district unit of Delhi Police has launched a comprehensive anti-drug campaign centered on a confidential QR code support system. The innovative program, titled "Drug-Free Campus," was officially introduced during Delhi Police Week as part of the central government's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign).
Anonymous Support Through Technology
The cornerstone of this initiative is a specially designed QR code system that allows students to seek help and access verified information completely anonymously. Joint Commissioner Deepak Purohit explained that these QR codes will be strategically placed across college campuses, enabling students to discreetly connect with counseling resources, educational materials, and assistance channels without fear of stigma or judgment.
"The anonymity feature is specifically intended to encourage early reporting and help-seeking behavior among students who might otherwise hesitate to come forward," Purohit emphasized during the launch event.
Comprehensive Campus Engagement Strategy
The campaign launch at Sri Venkateswara College drew hundreds of students and faculty members who witnessed the unveiling of this multi-faceted approach to substance abuse prevention. The program integrates three key components:
- Awareness Building: Through structured workshops and sensitization drives
- Prevention Education: Via life skill modules embedded into campus activities
- Early Intervention: Through the anonymous reporting and support system
Police authorities have developed a detailed annual engagement calendar to guide implementation across participating educational institutions throughout the academic year.
Peer Leadership and Symbolic Initiatives
Beyond the technological component, the campaign incorporates traditional engagement methods with modern twists. A campus ambassador system will identify and train student leaders to advocate for drug-free environments among their peers. These ambassadors will organize activities and serve as positive role models within their college communities.
Simultaneously, authorities introduced the Green Ribbon Initiative—a symbolic campaign designed to promote collective responsibility and visible commitment to substance-free campuses. Students wearing green ribbons will demonstrate their participation in and support for the anti-drug movement.

The launch event gained additional significance with the presence of Minister Ashish Sood and Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu, who both addressed the gathered students about the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles and making positive choices.
