On June 19, 2026, a 32-year-old man standing on the outer edge of a fifth-floor window at ISBT Kashmere Gate was rescued by Delhi Police personnel who responded swiftly to a PCR call. The man, later identified as Mohammad Kamran, was emotionally distressed and threatening to jump.
Swift Police Response
According to officials, a PCR call was received at the Kashmere Gate police station reporting a suicide attempt. Head Constable Ajay and Constable Piyush from the ISBT police post reached the spot within minutes. They found Kamran standing precariously on the outer edge of the building, with a fatal fall only a step away.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia stated that after assessing the situation, the officers positioned themselves inside the room adjacent to the window and tactfully engaged Kamran in conversation to calm him and divert his attention from taking any extreme step.
Daring Rescue Operation
The policemen devised a rescue plan. With the assistance of Constable Piyush, one end of a safety rope was securely fastened around Head Constable Ajay's waist, while the other end was anchored to a stable structure inside the building. Ajay carefully crossed the window and moved towards the distressed man standing on the outer edge.
At an opportune moment, Ajay managed to gain hold of Kamran and, with active support from Piyush, safely brought him back inside the building. Banthia said, 'Their timely intervention and coordinated efforts averted a potential tragedy and saved a precious human life.'
Background of the Rescued Man
During inquiry, Kamran was identified as a resident of Shuklaganj in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh. He is married and has two children. Earlier, he worked at a bread-making factory in Loni, Uttar Pradesh, and came to Delhi about a year ago, working as a labourer in Mustafabad. According to his family, he had been under distress for the past few days.
After due verification, Kamran was safely handed over to his father, Khalid Zuber, who arrived at the ISBT police post to take him home.
