Delhi Police Implements Sweeping 70-Officer Reshuffle to Enhance Security and Modernization
In a significant administrative overhaul aimed at sharpening the capital's security framework and advancing modernization initiatives, Delhi Police executed a major reshuffle on Tuesday, involving the transfer of a total of 70 officers. This strategic realignment is designed to bolster technological integration, improve regional monitoring, and address evolving threats in the city.
Key Appointments and Strategic Shifts
Anand Mohan, a seasoned 1994-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Director General (prisons). He will oversee the management of Tihar, Rohini, and Mandoli prison complexes, a role that requires a delicate balance between prison reform efforts and the containment of organized gang activities within these facilities.
The reshuffle emphasizes a clear tilt towards technological advancement and focused regional oversight. Sanjay Kumar Jain has been posted as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, based in the Commissioner's Secretariat. Additionally, he will hold the additional charge of Joint Commissioner of Police (Technology and Project Implementation), a position that serves as the nerve center for the department's push into digital policing and AI-driven surveillance systems.
Sumit Jha will assume the role of Deputy Commissioner of Police (CP's Secretariat-Crime), further strengthening the administrative and crime-fighting capabilities at the highest levels.
Regional and Specialized Unit Leadership
In the strategic Southern and Eastern ranges, Vijay Kumar and Ajit Singla have been appointed to take charge, respectively. A senior police official noted that Kumar's prior experience as DCP in the South district will enhance policing effectiveness in that area. Dheeraj Kumar steps into the high-stakes Crime Branch as Joint Commissioner of Police, a pivotal role for coordinating inter-state investigations and combating organized crime networks.
Supporting this shift is a new cadre of Additional Commissioners, with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity. Monika Bhardwaj will lead the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, while Nidhin Valsan will handle technology-related matters. These roles are now frontline defenses against the rising tide of digital fraud and cyber threats.
Ravi Kumar Singh has been elevated to Additional Commissioner of Police in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), signaling a heightened focus on complex financial litigation. Meanwhile, Abhishek Dhania joins the crime unit as Additional CP, and Bhisham Singh takes over the essential provision and logistics wing.
District and Specialized Force Appointments
The 'District DCP' roster, often regarded as the backbone of the home ministry in the capital, has been entirely refreshed. Key appointments include:
- Sachin Sharma as DCP of New Delhi district, covering the high-security Lutyens' belt.
- Anant Mittal in the South district and Akanksha Yadav in the Northwest district, both managing areas with a complex mix of affluent neighborhoods and dense urban pockets, requiring nuanced community policing approaches.
- Other district leaders: Rajiv Kumar (East), Kushal Pal Singh (Dwarka), Rohit Rajbir Singh (Central), RP Meena (Shahdara), Shashank Jaiswal (Rohini), and Vikram Singh (Outer).
The city's specialized strike forces will also see fresh leadership. The Special Cell/Anti-Terror Squad, serving as Delhi's primary shield against terrorism and organized syndicates, will be fortified by Praveen Tripathi and Narra Chaitanya, who will hold the post of DCP in the newly constituted Anti-Terror Squad. Their appointments are crucial as the capital faces evolving asymmetric threats.
Tripathi brings extensive experience, including a seven-year stint in an intelligence agency and service as Senior Superintendent of Police in Puducherry, where he oversaw crime, intelligence, and traffic wings. Chaitanya, known for his investigative acumen, has previously served as Additional DCP in the Outer district.
Additional postings include Bharat Reddy Bommareddy overseeing Railways, DCP Anyesh Roy in the IFSO unit, and Joint CP Sanjay Tyagi and Additional CP Vijyanta Arya in traffic, tasked with streamlining Delhi's vehicular movement. Ankit Chauhan has been appointed as DCP in the Special Branch, responsible for strengthening the city's intelligence network.
This comprehensive reshuffle underscores Delhi Police's commitment to adapting to modern challenges through strategic personnel placements and technological upgrades, ensuring enhanced security and operational efficiency in the capital.
