Brutal Crime Shocks Delhi: Mentally Challenged Woman Raped and Murdered
In a horrific incident that has sent shockwaves through the capital, Delhi Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly raping and brutally murdering a 52-year-old woman with mental health conditions. The accused, identified as Salman alias Bona, was apprehended from Gujarat following an intensive manhunt that spanned multiple states.
Gruesome Details of the Crime
The investigation revealed that Salman first attacked the victim with a stone, severely injuring her head, before sexually assaulting her. In a final act of brutality, he used a sharp object to slash her face and head, ultimately bludgeoning her to death with a stone. Police officials described the nature of the crime as particularly gruesome and have labeled the accused as a "psycho killer."
The semi-naked body of the victim, who worked as a rag picker and resided in Metro Vihar in Holambi Kalan, was discovered on November 16 behind Adarsh Nagar Railway Station. The location was concealed within shrubs, and the body bore deep cut wounds on the face and head, apparently inflicted with a knife-like weapon.
How Police Cracked the Case
The breakthrough in the investigation came from crucial CCTV footage obtained from a public toilet near the railway station. The footage showed the woman entering the premises, followed moments later by a man wearing a pink shirt, grey pants, and distinctive white-and-black slippers. These slippers matched a pair recovered from the crime scene, providing a vital clue.
Additional footage showed the suspect exiting the area barefoot toward Sarai Peepal Thala, indicating he had left his footwear behind. The CCTV trail eventually led investigators to the Jhuggis of Badhola village, where the suspect was identified as Salman. However, he had already fled before police could reach his residence.
Police teams were dispatched to multiple locations including Loni in Ghaziabad, Mukundpur, and Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, but the accused remained untraceable. His mobile phone had been switched off since the day before the murder, complicating tracking efforts.
Arrest and Confession
The breakthrough came on the intervening night of November 17 and 18 when police received a tip-off that Salman had fled to Vedach in Gujarat. The accused was subsequently arrested and during interrogation, he confessed to the brutal murder.
"The accused was following the victim and he first hit a stone on her head injuring her badly. He then raped her and before leaving the spot, he murdered her using a sharp-edge weapon," a police officer stated during the investigation.
Investigators also revealed that Salman is a habitual offender, previously involved in two heinous cases of robbery and the kidnapping and rape of a minor girl. Police are currently working to understand the motive behind targeting the mentally challenged woman.
The case highlights the vulnerability of mentally ill individuals in society and has raised serious questions about public safety and the protection of marginalized communities. Delhi Police continue their investigation to uncover any additional details about this shocking crime.
