An IndiGo flight operating from Delhi to Pune became the subject of a serious security alert upon its arrival at Pune Airport on January 22, 2026. The aircraft, identified as Flight 6E-2608, received bomb threat information, prompting immediate action from airport authorities and security agencies.
Timeline of the Security Incident
The scheduled flight was supposed to arrive at Pune Airport at 8:40 PM. However, it actually landed at 9:24 PM and was parked at Bay number 3 by 9:27 PM. Shortly after parking, Air Traffic Control communicated the concerning bomb threat information to Apron Control, setting in motion a comprehensive security protocol.
Immediate Response and Security Procedures
The aircraft was promptly moved to an isolation bay as a precautionary measure. Apron Control immediately alerted all concerned agencies about the potential threat. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was convened to evaluate the situation and determine the appropriate course of action.
Following the committee's assessment, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted a thorough inspection of the entire aircraft. Security personnel meticulously checked every compartment and area of the plane, leaving no stone unturned in their search for any potential threats.
Clearance and Normal Operations Resume
After extensive security checks, no suspicious or adverse findings were detected on the aircraft. The comprehensive procedures confirmed that there were no explosive materials or other security threats present. Upon completion of all necessary protocols, the aircraft was officially cleared and released for normal operations.
In an official statement regarding the incident, IndiGo confirmed: "Soon after landing, a security threat was noticed onboard IndiGo flight 6E 2608 operating from Delhi to Pune on 22 January 2026. Following the established protocol, we informed the relevant authorities immediately and are fully cooperating with them in following the standard operating procedures. All our customers and crew disembarked safely. We remain committed towards the safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft."
Second Similar Incident Within a Week
This security alert marks the second such incident involving IndiGo flights within just one week. On January 18, another IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bagdogra (Flight 6E 6650) was diverted to Lucknow after a security threat was detected onboard.
In that previous incident, reports indicated that a handwritten message on tissue paper was discovered inside the aircraft's toilet, claiming there was a bomb on the plane. The Bagdogra-bound flight, carrying 238 passengers along with the pilot and crew, made an emergency landing in Lucknow. Security checks conducted by CISF teams and the bomb squad in that case also revealed no explosive materials.
The consecutive security incidents have highlighted the vigilance of Indian aviation security protocols and the importance of established emergency procedures in ensuring passenger safety. Both situations were handled according to standard operating procedures, with all passengers and crew members safely disembarking from the aircraft in both cases.
