Speak for India District-Level Competition Concludes in Tamil Nadu

The two-day district-level Speak for India competition, a significant initiative aimed at empowering young minds across Tamil Nadu, recently concluded with successful events in both Madurai and Trichy. This platform encourages enthusiastic college students to voice their opinions on pressing societal issues and develop into future change-makers.

A Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative by Federal Bank

Speak for India is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program organized by the Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation in association with The Times of India. The competition provides an inter-collegiate debate forum where students can demonstrate their awareness, constructive thinking, insights, and perspectives on contemporary topics.

Event Locations and Participant Selection

In Madurai, the district competition was held at Solamalai College of Engineering on January 21. From this event, eleven talented students were shortlisted to advance to the zonal level. The selected participants include Monisaa V, Shivajanani G, Priyadharshini R, Rubika R, Anushree Mohanram, Thamizhini MG, Etana Charis Liana J, Rithika Sri K, Alagu Meenakshi M, Subanithi Subramani C, and P Thirushna.

The Trichy district round took place at Indra Ganesan College of Engineering on January 22. Thirteen students from this competition cleared the district level and will proceed to the zonals. The successful candidates are Yasmin Begum N, Balaganapathi I, P Mahalakshmi, Sowmiyaa VS, Jayasri S, Asrina Sahani N, Gowrinandana S, Amaraa Jasmine Paulina P, T Prabhu, Harish Vishal M, Aravinthan N, P Mahalakshmi, and V Hariharan.

Competition Structure and Attractive Prizes

Speak for India aims to identify the top inter-collegiate debaters in Tamil Nadu through multiple competitive levels, recognizing the most deserving contestants. The winner of the final competition will receive a substantial cash prize of ₹2.5 lakh, while the runner-up will be awarded ₹1.5 lakh. Additionally, each of the six finalists will receive ₹50,000 as recognition for their outstanding performance.

Registration Details and Online Participation

The competition remains open for registration until January 27. For students who are unable to participate in district-level competitions, there will be an online competition option available. This inclusive approach ensures broader participation across the state.
