A sudden and powerful explosion rocked the area near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening, plunging the capital into chaos and fear. The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1, resulted in the immediate death of at least eight people and left several others injured.

Scene of Devastation and Emergency Response

Eyewitnesses described a scene of utter horror, with a deafening blast that was followed by a major fire. "I never heard such a loud explosion in my life. It felt like we were all going to die," recounted a shaken shopkeeper from the vicinity. The explosion damaged three to four vehicles parked nearby, which were quickly engulfed in flames.

The Delhi Fire Department acted swiftly, deploying seven fire tenders to the site. According to Deputy Chief Fire Officer A.K. Malik, the fire was successfully doused by 7:29 PM.

The casualties from the blast were rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital. The Medical Superintendent confirmed the grim news that eight victims were brought dead. Of the injured, three were reported to be in serious condition, while one was stated to be stable.

In the aftermath of the explosion, a high alert was issued across the entire capital city. Security forces immediately tightened vigil, with enhanced measures put in place at sensitive locations and other metro stations to prevent any further untoward incidents.
