Tragic Accident in Delhi Claims Life of Scooter Rider
A devastating traffic incident in southwest Delhi resulted in the death of a 30-year-old scooter rider on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred near the Uttam Nagar West Metro station, involving a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus, a car, and the victim's scooter.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the rider, identified as Daksh, a resident of Uttam Nagar, was traveling on his scooter when he collided with an open car door. The impact caused him to fall onto the road, where he was subsequently run over by a DTC bus approaching from behind. Preliminary investigations indicate that the car had stopped on the left side of the road, and a passenger opened the right rear door without checking for oncoming traffic, leading to the initial crash.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
A passerby immediately made a PCR call, prompting a police team to arrive at the scene. They found the scooter severely damaged and the rider unresponsive. Daksh was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The incident caused significant traffic congestion in the area as commuters gathered to witness the aftermath.
DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh stated, "The rider fell on the road and was then run over by a DTC bus coming from behind." Police have confirmed that all three vehicles—the scooter, the car, and the bus—are believed to have been involved in the collision.
Legal Actions and Eyewitness Accounts
In response to the tragedy, authorities have apprehended the bus driver and detained the car driver for further questioning. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Eyewitnesses provided conflicting accounts of the incident. Mukesh Thakur claimed the bus was traveling at high speed, while Ram Balak identified the car as a cab operated by an app-based aggregator. Some witnesses also reported that the car had stopped in the middle of the road, adding to the hazardous conditions.
