Delhi Traffic Cop Suspended After Viral Scuffle Video

A head constable with the Delhi Traffic Police has been suspended from duty after a video capturing a physical confrontation between him and a cab driver went viral on social media platforms. The incident, which has sparked public outcry, occurred near the bustling New Delhi Railway Station.

Viral Video Captures On-Spot Altercation

The now-widely circulated footage, reportedly recorded by a bystander on Sunday, shows the traffic police official and the taxi driver engaged in a scuffle inside the vehicle itself. The constable was posted with the Central Range of the Delhi Traffic Police. The location of the incident has been identified as the area near the Ajmeri Gate Railway Reservation Centre, a zone where parking for taxis is strictly prohibited.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Scuffle

According to preliminary information, the confrontation began when the traffic policeman was in the process of issuing a challan to the cab driver. The constable was allegedly taking a photograph of the vehicle's number plate for the penalty when the driver reportedly hit him. Following the altercation, both individuals contacted the Police Control Room (PCR) to register complaints against each other.

Immediate Action and Official Inquiry

Taking swift cognizance of the viral video and the seriousness of the allegations, the Delhi Police authorities acted promptly. On Monday, they placed the head constable under suspension pending a detailed investigation into his conduct. A senior police officer confirmed that a formal inquiry into the entire episode has been initiated. An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank officer will lead this probe to ascertain the complete facts and determine accountability.

The suspension underscores the department's stance on maintaining discipline and appropriate public interface, especially when visual evidence circulates widely, influencing public perception of law enforcement.
