Delhi Traffic Police New Year Advisory: Route Restrictions

In anticipation of massive New Year's Eve gatherings, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory, outlining major restrictions and diversions across the national capital. The police have urged commuters to use public transport and follow instructions to ensure smooth movement and safety.

Major Traffic Restrictions in Key Celebration Zones

The advisory highlights specific areas where vehicular movement will be heavily regulated starting from the evening of December 31, 2025. Around Connaught Place, restrictions will be enforced from 7:00 PM until the celebrations conclude. Key points affected include the roundabouts at Bengali Market and Gole Market, Patel Chowk, Minto Road-DDU Marg crossing, and RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, among others.

Similarly, around India Gate, heavy pedestrian movement is expected. Vehicles will be diverted from multiple points including C-Hexagon, Rajpath, Rafi Marg, Mandi House roundabout, and points near Mathura Road and Purana Qila Road.

Restrictions in Saket and Paharganj Areas

In South Delhi's Saket area, traffic diversions will be implemented in view of celebrations at Select City Walk, DLF Avenue, and MGF Metropolitan Mall. Restrictions around Sheikh Sarai and Hauz Rani begin at 12 noon, with diversions from points like Sheikh Sarai Red Light and Asian Market Red Light starting at 2:00 PM. All median cuts from Sheikh Sarai to Hauz Rani will remain closed.

For Paharganj, restrictions are in place due to the expected rush at Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir. Commuters are advised to avoid Rani Jhansi Road during peak hours until January 1 and use alternate routes like DBG Road and New Rohtak Road.

Strict Action Against Traffic Violations

The Delhi Traffic Police has warned of stringent measures against various offenses. Strict action will be taken against violations including drunken driving (under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act), over-speeding, stunt biking, reckless driving, and zig-zag driving. Officials have emphasized that vehicles should be parked only in designated parking lots to avoid towing and penalties.

Enhanced Security Arrangements Across Delhi

Security has been significantly bolstered to manage crowds and prevent untoward incidents. Delhi Police has deployed nearly 3,000 personnel and set up more than 50 checkpoints across the city to monitor traffic and violations.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sanjay Kumar Jain stated that, as every year, elaborate security arrangements are in place. He mentioned that static and mobile patrol teams have been deployed at various locations. The police have identified around 60 party zones, including popular markets, malls, and nightlife hubs. Breath analyser checks will be conducted extensively to curb drunk driving.

The overarching message from the authorities is clear: plan your commute, use public transport, avoid restricted zones, and celebrate responsibly to ensure a safe and happy New Year for everyone in the city.
