Special DGP Shashi Prabha Dwivedi Oversees Extensive CASO Operation in Amritsar
The Amritsar Commissionerate Police launched a significant crackdown on criminal activities, with a large-scale cordon and search operation (CASO) conducted across the city on Thursday. This intensive drive was spearheaded by Special DGP (Railways) Shashi Prabha Dwivedi, aiming to curb anti-social elements, gangsters, and drug smugglers.
Massive Police Mobilization for Coordinated Action
A total of 385 personnel were deployed in this coordinated effort, including high-ranking officials such as three Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police and five Assistant Commissioners of Police. The operation also involved five Station House Officers, NGOs, and specialized teams like the Quick Response Team (QRT), Armed Reserve Police (ARP), Special Operations Group (SOG), and SWAT units.
The CASO targeted six key locations within the city police commissionerate's three zones:
- Anngarh and Gujjarpura in Zone 1, led by ADCP City-1 Vishaljeet Singh.
- Gumtala and Mustafabad in Zone 2, supervised by ADCP City-2 Srivennela.
- Maqboolpura and Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar flats in Zone 3, under ADCP City-3 Harpal Singh.
Police teams conducted rigorous checks, verified suspicious individuals, and closely monitored persons currently out on bail to ensure thorough scrutiny.
Recoveries and Arrests Highlight Ongoing Efforts
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar noted that this operation marked the 17th CASO conducted this year, underscoring the sustained efforts to maintain law and order. Special DGP Shashi Prabha Dwivedi provided detailed statistics on recoveries made by the city police from January 1 to March 18.
Under the NDPS Act:
- 404 cases were registered, resulting in 693 arrests.
- Recoveries included nearly 25 kg of heroin, over 7 kg of opium, methamphetamine (ICE), charas, and 4,560 intoxicant capsules and tablets.
- Drug money worth Rs 17.33 lakh and 17 vehicles used in trafficking were seized.
Under the Arms Act:
- 21 cases were registered, leading to 50 arrests.
- Recoveries comprised 48 pistols/mousers, one revolver, 49 magazines, and 150 live cartridges.
Additionally, hawala money amounting to Rs 3.80 lakh was confiscated during this period, highlighting the comprehensive approach to tackling financial crimes linked to illegal activities.
This operation reflects the Punjab Police's commitment to enhancing public safety and combating organized crime in Amritsar, with continued vigilance and strategic actions planned for the future.
