Dhanbad Legal Services Authority Team Inspects Kenduadih Amid Land Subsidence Crisis
In a significant move to address the ongoing environmental and safety crisis in Kenduadih, Dhanbad, a special team from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted a comprehensive visit to the area on Saturday. The primary objective of this visit was to assess the ground situation and provide crucial legal assistance to the affected families who are grappling with repeated incidents of land subsidence and the leakage of toxic gases, which pose a severe threat to life and property.
Extensive Inspection and Direct Interaction with Residents
The DLSA team, led by Judge-cum-secretary Mayank Tushar Topno, carried out an extensive inspection of the affected localities in Kenduadih. During this visit, the team members interacted directly with the residents to gain a firsthand understanding of their grievances and the challenges they face due to the hazardous conditions. This direct engagement allowed the legal authorities to gather detailed insights into the impact of the land subsidence and gas leaks on the community.
Accompanying Judge Topno were key officials, including Kumar Vimalendu, the Chief of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System, and deputy chief Ajay Kumar Bhatt, along with other team members. Their presence underscored the seriousness with which the legal services authority is approaching this issue, aiming to ensure that the affected families receive the support and justice they deserve.
Assurances of Justice and Future Actions
Following the inspection, Mayank Tushar Topno addressed the residents, assuring them of the team's commitment to securing justice. He stated, "We have heard the grievances of the people and will now take up the matter with BCCL and the district administration." This promise highlights the next steps in the legal process, where the DLSA plans to engage with the Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and local administrative bodies to address the root causes of the land subsidence and gas leakage issues.
The visit marks a proactive effort by the legal services authority to intervene in a situation that has long endangered the lives and livelihoods of Kenduadih residents. By providing legal aid and advocating for systemic changes, the DLSA aims to mitigate the risks and ensure safer living conditions for the affected families.
