Dhanbad Police Crack Down on Armed Gang, Foil Criminal Plot
In a significant breakthrough, Dhanbad police apprehended four armed criminals late Saturday night. The arrests occurred during a coordinated vehicle-checking operation on the Rajganj–Tetulmari main road.
Dramatic Chase Leads to Arrests
A joint team from Rajganj and Tetulmari police stations conducted the routine check. Around 11:45 pm, officers spotted two motorcycles approaching from the Tetulmari side. The motorcycles carried four men who immediately raised suspicion.
When police signaled them to stop, the riders attempted to flee. They turned their vehicles abruptly and sped toward Sondaha Basti. Police gave chase immediately. During the pursuit, all four suspects lost control of their motorcycles and fell to the ground. Officers apprehended them on the spot without further incident.
Weapons and Evidence Recovered
Following the arrests, police conducted a thorough search. They recovered two country-made pistols and five live cartridges of 7.65 mm caliber. Officers also seized four mobile phones and the two motorcycles used by the accused.
Rural SP Kapil Chaudhary stated that the men had assembled specifically to plan a criminal act. Their quick apprehension prevented what could have been a serious crime.
Connection to Previous Crime
During interrogation, the four men confessed to their involvement in an earlier incident. On January 10, they participated in a firing and attempted robbery near Tilatand village under Tetulmari police station. Their target was grocery shopkeeper Arjun Mahto.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rinku Mandal (alias Tuntun Mandal), Ravi Mahto (alias Billu), Shamsul Ansari (alias Chand), and Gautam Dhiwar (alias Baba). Police records indicate that some of these accused have prior criminal histories.
Ongoing Investigation
Police officials confirmed that one accomplice remains at large. Authorities are actively pursuing this individual and expect to make another arrest soon. The operation has sent a strong message to criminal elements operating in the region.
This decisive action by Dhanbad Police has disrupted criminal networks and bolstered public confidence in law enforcement. Residents have expressed relief knowing that police are taking proactive measures to ensure community safety.
