Masked Gang Robs Retired Army Soldier's Home in Dhanbad, Flees with Lakhs in Cash and Jewellery
In a shocking incident that has rattled the Mishridih Mor area of Dhanbad, a group of approximately ten armed and masked criminals executed a brazen robbery at the residence of a retired Army personnel on Tuesday night. The location, situated about 10 kilometers from the district headquarters, became the scene of a meticulously planned heist that resulted in the theft of cash and valuables estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees.
Hostage Situation and Systematic Looting
The criminals, armed and concealing their identities, forcibly entered the home of retired soldier Kailash Prasad Mishra under the cover of darkness. In a terrifying escalation, they held Mishra's children hostage at gunpoint, creating a climate of fear to facilitate their criminal activities. The gang proceeded to loot the premises, making off with an estimated Rs 3.5 lakh in cash along with a significant quantity of gold and silver jewellery. Preliminary assessments place the total value of the stolen jewellery at nearly Rs 20 lakh, bringing the cumulative loot to over Rs 23 lakh.
Destruction of Evidence and Suspected Intoxication
Demonstrating a concerning level of sophistication, the perpetrators took deliberate steps to obstruct the investigation. They damaged the CCTV cameras installed throughout the house and absconded with the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) system, effectively erasing potential video evidence of their identities and actions.
Retired soldier Kailash Prasad Mishra recounted that he had retired to sleep on the terrace after his evening meal. He expressed a disturbing suspicion to authorities, noting that he did not wake up during the entire commotion. "I suspect that the criminals might have used some kind of intoxicating substance in the air to ensure I remained unconscious," Mishra stated, highlighting the calculated nature of the attack.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
In the wake of the incident, law enforcement agencies have sprung into action. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shankar Kamti confirmed that immediate raids were conducted across several areas following the robbery. "The investigation is actively underway," DSP Kamti asserted. "Our teams have obtained some preliminary clues, and we are pursuing all leads diligently to apprehend those responsible for this serious crime."
The case has underscored concerns about security in the region, particularly for senior citizens and retired defense personnel. The police have assured the public and the victim's family that no effort will be spared in bringing the culprits to justice and recovering the stolen property.
