Dibrugarh Police Launches Specialized Forensic Training to Strengthen Investigations

In a significant move to modernize law enforcement capabilities, Dibrugarh police organized a specialized training program on fingerprint development and lifting at the police reserve in Dibrugarh on Tuesday. This initiative aims to bolster the forensic skills of investigating officers from all police stations across the district, ensuring they are equipped with essential techniques for effective criminal investigations.

Hands-On Training for Enhanced Forensic Expertise

The training session brought together investigating officers from every police station in Dibrugarh district, providing them with practical, hands-on knowledge in one of the most fundamental disciplines of forensic science. Focused on the identification, development, and proper lifting of fingerprints from crime scenes, the program emphasized techniques that often serve as the cornerstone of criminal cases and provide decisive evidence in courts of law.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhijit Gurav highlighted the importance of the training, stating, "Scientific evidence is the backbone of modern criminal investigation. Fingerprint analysis remains one of the most reliable and admissible forms of forensic evidence, and it is essential that every investigating officer on the ground is well-versed in its correct collection and preservation." He added that the department aims for officers to approach crime scenes with the rigour and precision of forensic investigators, as mishandled evidence can compromise entire investigations.

Part of a Broader Modernization Push

This training is part of a broader and accelerating effort by Dibrugarh police to modernize its investigative apparatus. It builds on earlier advancements, including the induction of a state-of-the-art mobile forensic van from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Guwahati on February 1. The van is equipped with advanced tools for:

  • DNA sampling
  • Fingerprint lifting
  • Blood splatter analysis
  • Ballistic evidence examination

This mobile unit enables forensic experts to conduct scientific examinations directly at crime scenes, drastically reducing delays associated with transporting evidence to centralized laboratories.

Focus on Outcome-Driven Policing

SSP Gurav emphasized that the program reflects the department's commitment to outcome-driven policing. By enhancing forensic capabilities, Dibrugarh police aim to improve the accuracy and efficiency of criminal investigations, ensuring that evidence is collected and preserved to the highest standards. This initiative underscores the critical role of forensic science in solving crimes and delivering justice in the district.
