DIG suspends Rajasansi SHO for missing naka duty, sleeping

Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Harmanbir Singh Gill suspended Station House Officer (SHO) Harjit Singh of the Rajasansi police station on Thursday for negligence after a surprise inspection revealed the officer absent from his assigned naka duty. The SHO was later found sleeping in a room at the police station.

Surprise Inspection Uncovers Dereliction of Duty

According to police sources, DIG Gill conducted surprise checks of police nakas in the Rajasansi area. When the SHO was found missing from his post, a search led to him being discovered asleep inside the police station premises. A video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, purportedly shows the DIG confronting the SHO in Punjabi, saying: “Tera naka hai, te tu kithe hai? Ithe agg lagi hai te tu sutta peya hai” (“You are responsible for the naka, so where were you? There is a crisis here and you are sleeping”).

Immediate Suspension and Departmental Action

Following the confrontation, DIG Gill ordered the immediate suspension of the SHO. Police officials confirmed that departmental action was initiated without delay, and Sub-Inspector Harjit Singh has been placed under suspension pending a further inquiry. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by senior officers to enforce discipline and accountability within the police force.
