Tragic Shooting Mars Wedding Celebration in Fazilka's Jalalabad Town
What should have been a joyous occasion turned into a scene of horror in Punjab's Fazilka district when wedding celebrations in Jalalabad town ended in tragedy on Sunday night. A man accompanying a DJ was shot dead after gate-crashers got into a violent confrontation with the groom's family over alleged misbehaviour, according to police statements on Monday.
Victim Identified as Daily Labourer from Ghubaya Village
The victim has been identified as Karamjeet Singh, a resident of Ghubaya village who worked as a daily labourer with DJ operator Krishan Kumar Phalianwala. The incident occurred near the Bahmani Wala Road railway crossing in Jalalabad, casting a pall of grief over what was meant to be a festive occasion.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
According to Gurmeet Kaur, whose son was getting married, the family had initially gone to a banquet hall near Gumaniwala village for the wedding ceremony. After returning home later with the bride, celebrations were continuing at their residence when the trouble began.
Gurmeet alleged that some youths from the neighbourhood gate-crashed the event and began misbehaving with guests. When they were asked to stop, a dispute quickly escalated into violence. "Sajjan Singh, along with his companions, came to our house. They pelted bricks and stones, vandalised vehicles and created a huge ruckus," Gurmeet recounted. "During this time, the accused fired shots, one of which hit the young man who had come with the DJ."
Medical Response and Fatal Outcome
The injured man was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Due to his critical condition, he was later referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot. Despite medical efforts, Karamjeet Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment, marking a devastating end to what began as a celebration.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Local police have confirmed that Sajjan Singh has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Authorities are continuing their investigation and making efforts to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the incident. The case highlights ongoing concerns about public safety during social gatherings in the region.
