The shooting took place near Ruhi Chowk on the Achalpuri–Narha road, a relatively deserted stretch where the criminals had allegedly lain in ambush. According to police reports and family statements, the victim, identified as Vinod Mahto alias Bachcha Babu, had visited his maternal home in Narha village earlier in the day and was on his way back to his residence in Achalpur village when the attack occurred. The assailants opened fire, killing Vinod on the spot in what appears to be a premeditated act of violence.

Upon being alerted by family members who rushed to the scene, a police team promptly arrived at the location. Officers recovered a shell casing from the site, which has been sent for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Benipur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Basukinath Jha stated that preliminary findings indicate the murder may be connected to an old dispute, though specific details have not been disclosed publicly.
