The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has launched an awareness campaign regarding Special Lok Adalats scheduled for July 18 and November 21, specifically for cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, commonly known as cheque bounce cases. These adalats are being organized in accordance with the guidelines issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The primary objective is to facilitate quick and amicable settlement of disputes, reduce the pendency of cases, and ensure speedy justice for all parties involved.
Appeal from District and Sessions Judge
District and Sessions Judge Jatinder Kaur has appealed to litigants, lawyers, banks, financial institutions, business establishments, and the general public to make maximum use of this facility. She emphasized that settlements through Lok Adalats are voluntary, cost-effective, and time-saving. Such settlements also help maintain cordial relations between the parties and avoid prolonged court proceedings, she added.
Details from DLSA Secretary
DLSA Secretary Parminder Kaur Bains stated that parties involved in pending cheque bounce cases can contact their lawyers or the DLSA office to explore the possibility of settling their disputes through the Special Lok Adalats. She urged all stakeholders to participate actively and support the initiative to ensure its success. The DLSA has encouraged eligible litigants to avail themselves of this opportunity for speedy and amicable resolution of their disputes.
How to Participate
People seeking assistance or further information may contact the DLSA office during working hours. The DLSA Secretary reiterated that the authority is committed to providing accessible justice and reducing the burden on regular courts through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Impact and Benefits
Lok Adalats are known for their informal and conciliatory approach, which helps in reducing the backlog of cases in traditional courts. By settling disputes amicably, they also preserve relationships between parties, which is particularly important in commercial and financial matters like cheque bounce cases. The initiative aligns with NALSA's broader goal of ensuring justice for all, especially for those who may find the regular court process daunting or expensive.
