Ahmedabad Doctor Brutally Assaulted While Treating Patient, Requires 16 Stitches
In a shocking incident in Ahmedabad, a 64-year-old doctor was violently attacked with a steel walking stick while attending to an injured patient late at night, leaving him with severe head injuries that necessitated 16 stitches. The assault occurred in the Samarth Nagar area of Sardarnagar around 11:30 PM on Friday, highlighting the dangers faced by healthcare professionals.
Late-Night Call Turns Violent
The doctor received an urgent phone call from a local resident who reported being injured and bleeding, pleading for immediate medical assistance. Responding to the emergency, the doctor rushed to the patient's home, where he found the individual suffering from a head injury. As he began treatment, a dispute erupted between the patient and another man present at the scene.
According to the complaint filed with the Airport police, the patient informed the doctor that the man had previously verbally abused him, struck him on the head with a plastic bucket, and issued death threats. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the doctor intervened, urging both parties to resolve their differences peacefully as neighbours.
Doctor Targeted in Brutal Attack
The accused, however, turned his aggression toward the doctor. He reportedly abused the medical professional, shouting, 'Do whatever you want, but do not speak between us', before violently striking him on the left side of the head with a steel walking stick. The blow caused severe bleeding, and the assailant further threatened to kill the doctor.
When bystanders attempted to intervene, the accused escalated the violence, attacking them as well and threatening to kill everyone present. A woman sustained injuries to both hands, while another person suffered minor wounds during the chaotic altercation.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
Emergency services were promptly called to the scene. The doctor, the original patient, and two other injured individuals were transported to Civil Hospital for treatment. The doctor's head injury was particularly severe, requiring 16 stitches to close the wound. This incident underscores the risks healthcare workers face while performing their duties, especially in volatile situations.
The police are investigating the case, and the accused remains at large as authorities work to bring him to justice. This attack has sparked concerns about safety for medical professionals in Ahmedabad and beyond.
